mangonel

Medieval siege engine

A mangonel is a medieval siege engine that hurls stones or other projectiles using a wooden arm powered by twisted ropes or sinews.

Smaller and less powerful than a trebuchet, mangonels were used to batter fortifications or launch missiles over walls: The defenders watched as the enemy assembled mangonels beyond the moat.
