magnetic recording
Data on tape
Magnetic recording is the storage of information by magnetizing particles on a surface—tape, disk, or wire.
Sound, video, and data have all been stored this way: The interview was preserved through magnetic recording.
Though largely superseded by digital and solid-state storage, the technology shaped twentieth-century media, from reel-to-reel tape to VHS to hard drives.
