lovastatin

Lipid-lowering drug

Lovastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication belonging to the statin class of drugs.

It works by inhibiting an enzyme in the liver that produces cholesterol, thereby reducing levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) in the blood.

Originally derived from a fungus, it was the first statin approved for medical use in the United States.

My doctor prescribed lovastatin after my cholesterol numbers came back high.
