PCSK9 inhibitors
LDL-targeting antibody drugs
PCSK9 inhibitors are a class of drugs that dramatically lower LDL cholesterol by blocking a protein that normally degrades cholesterol receptors in the liver.
With more receptors available, the liver clears more cholesterol from the bloodstream.
These injectable medications are typically prescribed when statins alone aren't enough or can't be tolerated: Her doctor added a PCSK9 inhibitor after two statins caused muscle pain.
