lost property

Items left behind

Lost property is a British term for items that have been left behind or misplaced by their owners in public places, and the system for recovering them.

The equivalent American term is lost and found.

A lost property office collects such items—umbrellas, phones, bags—and holds them until claimed.

I checked the lost property office at the train station for my forgotten briefcase.
