longrifle
Kentucky hunting weapon
A longrifle is a muzzle-loading firearm with an unusually long barrel, developed by German gunsmiths in colonial Pennsylvania.
The extended barrel improved accuracy at distance, making it the weapon of frontier settlers and Revolutionary War sharpshooters.
Also called a Pennsylvania rifle or Kentucky rifle: His grandfather's longrifle hung above the mantel.
