log entry
Documented event notation
A log entry is a single record in a log—a dated notation documenting an event, observation, or activity.
Ship captains make log entries about weather and position; programmers review log entries to diagnose software errors; diarists write log entries about their days.
The term applies whether the log is a physical book or a digital file: The server's log entries showed unusual activity at 3 a.m.
