lodgepole pine
Tall straight timber
Lodgepole pine is a North American conifer found throughout western mountains and into Canada and Alaska.
The tree grows tall and straight with a narrow trunk—qualities that made it ideal for Native American lodge poles and tipi frames.
Its cones often remain sealed for years, opening after fire to reseed burned areas.
The forest was thick with lodgepole pine.
