limit order

Conditional trading directive

A limit order is an instruction to buy or sell a security at a specified price or better.

Unlike a market order, which executes immediately at current prices, a limit order waits until the market reaches your target: I set a limit order to buy at $50, so it won't execute until the price drops to that level.

The order may never fill if the price doesn't reach the limit.
