stop loss
Automatic exit order
A stop loss is an order to sell a security when it drops to a specified price, limiting an investor's potential loss: I set a stop loss at $45 in case the stock tanks.
The term extends to any predetermined threshold for cutting losses—in trading, gambling, or business decisions.
Also written stop-loss or stoploss.
