Lightsabers are the signature weapons of the Star Wars universe—swords with blades made of plasma or focused energy that can cut through almost anything.
They're wielded by Jedi and Sith, humming and crackling distinctively in combat.
The term appears in discussions of science fiction weaponry and sometimes metaphorically for any elegant or powerful tool: They went at each other like they had lightsabers.
