lemon law
Defective vehicle statute
Lemon law refers to consumer protection laws that provide remedies for buyers of defective vehicles—cars that turn out to be "lemons." These laws typically require manufacturers to replace or refund vehicles with substantial defects that can't be repaired after a reasonable number of attempts: She invoked the lemon law after the transmission failed for the third time.
Most U.S. states have their own versions, with varying coverage and requirements.
