leafing

Flipping through casually

Leafing is the process of producing or putting out leaves, as plants do in spring: The trees are leafing out early this year.

It also means turning pages, usually casually or without close reading: I spent the afternoon leafing through old magazines.

To leaf through something is to browse rather than study it.
