laybacks
Leaning backward moves
Laybacks are maneuvers in figure skating and rock climbing where the body leans backward.
In skating, a layback spin has the skater arching the back while rotating.
In climbing, a layback (or lieback) uses opposing pressure—hands pulling while feet push against a crack or edge: She laybacks up the flake with smooth efficiency.
The technique demands core strength and balance.
