lava formations
Solidified volcanic rock
Lava formations are the shapes and structures created when molten rock cools and solidifies.
These include pillows (rounded masses formed underwater), tubes (hollow tunnels left when outer lava hardens while inner lava drains), and various surface textures from smooth pahoehoe to jagged aa.
The hikers explored ancient lava formations along the volcanic coast.
