land art
Outdoor earth installations
Land art is art created directly in the natural landscape, using earth, rocks, water, and other environmental materials as the medium.
Works are often monumental in scale—spirals carved into lakebeds, trenches dug in deserts, boulders arranged on hillsides.
The movement emerged in the 1960s as artists rejected gallery spaces for remote outdoor sites.
Also called earthworks or earth art.
