Southeast Asian transwomen
Ladyboys are transgender women or effeminate gay men, especially in Thailand and Southeast Asia.
The term translates Thai *kathoey* and carries exotic or sexualized connotations in Western usage.
It can be affectionate or offensive depending on context and speaker: The cabaret featured ladyboy performers.
Many transgender women consider the term reductive or fetishizing.
