kobold

Germanic household spirit

A kobold is a sprite or goblin from German folklore, typically dwelling in mines or households.

In mines, kobolds were blamed for accidents and for substituting worthless ore for valuable metals—cobalt takes its name from them.

In modern fantasy games and fiction, kobolds appear as small, reptilian humanoids, often depicted as weak but cunning creatures that attack in groups.
