cannon-fodder
Soldiers considered expendable
Cannon fodder refers to soldiers regarded as expendable—troops sent into battle with little regard for their survival, as if their purpose were merely to absorb enemy fire.
The term extends to anyone treated as disposable in pursuit of someone else's goals: The interns were cannon fodder for the partner's ambitions.
Also spelled cannon-fodder or cannonfodder.
