knurl
Machined grip ridge
A knurl is a small ridge or bead, especially one of a series forming a textured pattern on a surface for grip.
The knurled grip on a tool handle or camera dial prevents slipping.
To knurl is to create such ridges, typically by pressing a patterned wheel against metal on a lathe.
The knurled knob turned smoothly under his thumb.
