junkers

Cars for scrap

Junkers, plural of junker, refers to old, dilapidated vehicles—cars, trucks, or other machinery—that are worn out and barely functional or fit only for salvage.

A car dealer might dismiss a trade-in as nothing but a junker, while a teenager's first car is often an affordable junker.

The term carries a slightly affectionate tone when applied to vehicles that, despite their condition, still run. (Capitalized Junker refers to the Prussian landed aristocracy.)
