A jetport is an airport designed to handle jet aircraft, particularly one with runways long enough for large commercial jets.
The term emerged in the mid-20th century as jet travel became widespread and airports needed to distinguish facilities capable of accommodating these faster, heavier planes.
Today jetport appears mostly in proper names of specific airports rather than as a general term.
