thyroid gland
Metabolism-regulating neck organ
The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped organ at the base of the neck that produces hormones regulating metabolism, growth, and energy.
An overactive thyroid causes weight loss and rapid heartbeat; an underactive one causes fatigue and weight gain.
Often shortened to just thyroid: The doctor wants to check my thyroid.
