innertubes

River floating rings

Innertubes are the inflatable rubber rings that fit inside tires to hold air pressure.

Once standard in bicycle and automobile tires, they've largely been replaced by tubeless designs.

The word now most commonly refers to the large inflatable rings used for floating on water—tubing down rivers or being towed behind boats: We spent the afternoon on innertubes at the lake.
