ink pen

Liquid-filled writer

A pen that uses ink, as opposed to a pencil.

The phrase is common in Southern American English, where *pen* alone might be ambiguous or where speakers habitually distinguish writing instruments: Do you have an ink pen I can borrow?

Elsewhere the term sounds redundant, since most pens use ink by definition.
