initialize
Prepare for use
Initialize means to set something to its starting state or prepare it for use.
In computing, you initialize a variable by assigning its first value, or initialize a disk to prepare it for data storage.
The word appears in technical contexts but has spread to general use: Let me initialize the system before we begin.
Initialize suggests a deliberate reset to baseline conditions before operation.
