inhalants

Drugs you breathe

Inhalants are substances whose vapors are inhaled to produce intoxicating effects.

The term usually refers to common household products—glue, paint thinner, aerosol sprays, nitrous oxide—that aren't designed as drugs but are abused for their psychoactive properties: Inhalant abuse is especially common among teenagers.

The category excludes substances meant to be inhaled, like tobacco or cannabis.
