inclined planes
Tilted flat paths
An inclined plane is a flat surface set at an angle to the horizontal, one of the six classical simple machines.
A ramp is the most familiar example—it trades distance for reduced force, making it easier to raise heavy objects: They rolled the barrel up an inclined plane onto the truck.
The concept appears in physics problems and engineering contexts.
