hydrogen balloon
Lighter-than-air craft
A hydrogen balloon is a balloon filled with hydrogen gas, which is lighter than air and provides lift.
Hydrogen was the original lifting gas for both toy balloons and airships, but its extreme flammability—demonstrated catastrophically by the Hindenburg disaster—led to its replacement by helium in most applications.
The hydrogen balloon rose quickly and disappeared from sight.
