transportees

Exiled colonial prisoners

Transportees are people who have been transported, particularly convicts sent to penal colonies.

The term appears most often in historical contexts about British imperial punishment, when criminals were shipped to Australia or other distant territories: Many transportees never saw England again.

The word can also refer more generally to anyone being moved from one place to another.
