face-off circle
Hockey confrontation spot
A face-off circle is one of the marked circles on an ice hockey rink where play resumes after stoppages.
Players from opposing teams position themselves inside the circle while the referee drops the puck between them.
There are typically five face-off circles on a rink—one at center ice and two in each team's defensive zone.
