Keeper's protected area
The goal crease is a marked area directly in front of a hockey or lacrosse goal, typically a semicircle or rectangle where special rules apply to protect the goaltender.
In hockey, attacking players generally cannot enter the crease before the puck, and goals scored while interfering with the goalie in the crease may be disallowed: He was called for being in the goal crease when the shot went in.
