historic lighthouses
Preserved maritime towers
Historic lighthouses are lighthouse structures recognized for their age, architectural significance, or cultural importance.
Many date from the 18th and 19th centuries, when coastal navigation depended on these beacons.
As modern navigation technology made them obsolete, historic lighthouses became preservation projects and tourist attractions: We toured the historic lighthouses along the coast.
