hilus
Entry point depression
The hilus is the indented area on an organ where blood vessels, nerves, and ducts enter or exit—the gateway point.
It appears most often in anatomy: the hilus of the kidney, lung, or spleen.
Also spelled hilum, particularly in botany, where it names the scar on a seed marking its attachment point to the pod.
