high jump mat
Soft athletic surface
A high jump mat is the thick, cushioned landing surface used in the track and field event.
The mat absorbs the impact when athletes clear the bar and fall backward from heights that can exceed two meters.
Also called a crash mat or landing pit, these are typically made of dense foam covered in vinyl: She cleared the bar and sank into the high jump mat.
