heritor

One who inherits

A heritor is one who inherits—an heir.

The word appears primarily in Scottish legal and ecclesiastical contexts, where heritors were landowners responsible for maintaining parish churches and schools.

Outside these technical uses, heritor is rare and literary, displaced by the more common heir: The heritors of the estate gathered for the reading of the will.
