hand wound

Not battery operated

Hand wound describes something wound by hand rather than by machine—typically a watch, clock, or coil of wire.

A hand-wound watch requires turning the crown to tension the mainspring: My grandfather's hand-wound pocket watch still keeps perfect time.

The term also applies to guitar pickups, transformers, and other devices where manual winding affects quality or character.
