self-regulating
Controls itself internally
Self-regulating describes something that controls or adjusts itself without external intervention.
A self-regulating market supposedly corrects its own imbalances through supply and demand.
A self-regulating industry polices itself rather than submitting to government oversight.
The term applies to biological systems, thermostats, and any mechanism with built-in feedback loops that maintain equilibrium: The body is a self-regulating system that maintains constant temperature.
