haemophilia

Hereditary bleeding condition

Haemophilia is a genetic disorder in which blood fails to clot properly, causing prolonged bleeding from even minor injuries.

The condition results from deficiency of clotting factors and is inherited almost exclusively by males through their mothers.

The spelling haemophilia is British; Americans write hemophilia.
