gum trees

Koala's favorite habitat

Gum trees are trees of the eucalyptus family, native to Australia and known for their aromatic leaves and bark that sheds in strips.

The name comes from the gummy resin some species exude.

In North America, gum tree more often refers to the sweet gum or black gum, unrelated species with similarly sticky sap.

Koalas live almost entirely in gum trees.
