ground floor
Building's base story
The ground floor is the level of a building at or nearest street level.
In American usage, this is typically the first floor; in British usage, it's below the first floor.
Figuratively, to get in on the ground floor is to join an enterprise at its beginning, before success raises the stakes or price of entry.
