Griptape is the coarse, sandpaper-like material applied to the top of a skateboard deck to provide traction.
The rough surface helps keep a rider's feet in place during tricks and maneuvers.
Griptape comes in sheets that are cut to fit the board's shape: I need to replace my griptape—it's getting worn smooth.
