giro
European payment system
Giro is a system of electronic money transfer between banks or post offices, common in Europe but rare in the United States.
In British English, a giro often refers specifically to a government benefit payment or the check itself: waiting for my giro to come through.
The word also names a type of multi-stage cycling race, most famously the Giro d'Italia.
