pay packet

Worker's weekly earnings

A pay packet is chiefly British for the envelope or package containing an employee's wages, and by extension, the wages themselves.

The term dates from when workers received cash in physical envelopes rather than direct deposits.

It remains common in British English as a casual way to refer to one's earnings or salary: I can't afford that on my pay packet.

Americans are more likely to say paycheck.
