foreordaining

Setting fate early

Foreordaining is determining or decreeing something in advance, especially by divine will.

The word appears most often in religious contexts, where God foreordains events or fates: Scripture teaches that God foreordains all things.

Outside theology, it suggests that outcomes were inevitable from the start: His background seemed to be foreordaining his failure.
