preordain

Decree in advance

To preordain is to determine or decree something in advance, especially by divine will or fate.

The word often appears in religious contexts—God preordains events, souls are preordained for salvation or damnation.

More loosely, anything that seems inevitable feels preordained: The outcome seemed preordained from the start.

The adjective preordained describes what has been fixed beforehand.
