fog lights

Low-visibility driving aids

Fog lights are auxiliary vehicle lights mounted low on the front (and sometimes rear) of a car, designed to improve visibility in fog, rain, or snow.

Unlike headlights, which can reflect off fog and create glare, fog lights cast a wide, low beam that illuminates the road surface without bouncing back into the driver's eyes.

Many drivers use them in any low-visibility conditions, though some jurisdictions restrict their use to actual fog or severe weather.
