low-beam
Reduced headlight setting
Low-beam refers to a vehicle headlight setting that angles light downward and forward, illuminating the road without blinding oncoming drivers.
It's the standard setting for nighttime driving in traffic, as opposed to high-beam, which projects light farther but can dazzle other motorists: She switched to low-beam when she saw headlights approaching.
Often used as an adjective: low-beam headlights.
