fly reel
Line storage device
A fly reel is the spool mechanism attached to a fly fishing rod that holds the line.
Unlike spinning reels, fly reels are relatively simple—their main job is storing line and providing drag when a hooked fish runs.
The reel mounts below the rod grip, and anglers strip line by hand rather than casting from the reel: He heard the fly reel sing as the trout took off downstream.
