flumes

Artificial water troughs

A flume is an artificial channel for conveying water, typically a wooden or metal trough used to transport logs, carry water for mining operations, or direct flow in industrial settings.

The term also applies to water park rides that send riders sliding down steep, winding channels.

Natural ravines with streams running through them are sometimes called flumes as well.

The old mining flume still clings to the mountainside.
